There’s a lot of talk about the proposal to renovate the fairgrounds, add a minor league baseball park. I’m staying out of this one for now.
The Fairgrounds is state property, and the Fair Board reports to the California Department of Food & Agriculture, not the city. There’s really no decision the Council could take to make this happen or to stop it.
If the project goes through, it will have a substantial impact on the city — on the one hand, parking/traffic from so many more visitors; on the other, revenue from so many more visitors. I don’t know how that will play out. With all the residential development in the area, it could mean Downtown will look very different in ten years.
The Fairgrounds Board will have a two-hour public hearing The Feb. 22 meeting will be held 5:30pm, Wednesday, Feb 22 at the Santa Rosa Hall on the fairgrounds.
